This rug comes from a village near the Middle Atlas Mountain.
This piece is a living testament to the powerful history of this village. In Ait Yadine, the weaving tradition is nurtured by the women passing the skills down from generation to generation.
The Kilim style originates from the Middle Atlas region. In this textile, the geometric pattern mimics the architectural style you will find all over Morocco.
This piece was originally made to help transport items from the village's weekly souk (market or a bazaar). Weekly souks are usually held at the center of the village and families use donkey’s to help carry their weekly hauls, from vegetables to grains. This rug was used to cover the food to help keep it fresh as the donkey and owner made its way back home.
